Today, we have an important Threadless terms of service update to share. We are opening up new pathways to grow your audience and get your Marketplace designs in front of even more customers.
Your designs now have the potential to list seamlessly on platforms like TikTok Shop, Instagram Shopping, Facebook Shop, Pinterest, Google Shopping, YouTube Shopping, and Shopify’s shop.app. Specifically, we are growing our footprint so customers can purchase your work across a variety of digital storefronts where Threadless operates as the direct retailer.
To smoothly bring Threadless Marketplace designs into these modern social-commerce platforms down the road, we are officially updating our Terms of Service. This update ensures that the foundation is in place to showcase your products to broader audiences as we plug into these new channels.
Why We Are Making This Update Now
When we wrote our original terms years ago, Threadless.com was the only digital space where we fulfilled orders. Therefore, the language was tied exclusively to the main website. However, the digital retail landscape has evolved immensely since then. Today’s shoppers love discovering new products right inside their favorite social media and browsing apps.
By introducing a new defined term, Threadless Sales Channels, we can explicitly authorize the placement of products on these social-commerce platforms. As a result, we can handle the setup and management behind the scenes. This gives your work maximum exposure without creating any extra admin work or tedious consent flows for you.
What This Means for Your Artist Shop
This update is entirely about scaling up your visibility. Additionally, your day-to-day experience, control, and ownership remain exactly the same.
- Your Intellectual Property: You continue to retain 100% of the IP rights to your artwork. This update does not change your ownership of your creative property in any way.
- Your Earnings: Your artist earnings, profit structures, and payment terms remain completely untouched. Furthermore, when your designs sell on these external social channels, your earnings work exactly the same way they do when someone buys from the main site.
- Our Logistics: Threadless continues to handle all of the merchant-of-record responsibilities, high-quality printing, fulfillment, shipping, and customer support.
Note: Most of these new social-commerce opportunities apply specifically to designs participating in the Threadless Marketplace. If you are currently opted out of the Marketplace and choose to keep your designs exclusively within your own independent Artist Shop, there will be no changes to your current design opportunities or setup. However, if you want to take advantage of this expanded reach, you can easily opt into the Threadless Marketplace through your Artist dashboard settings at any time.
Earn More, Retail, and Licensing Opportunities
This change only applies to digital spaces where Threadless operates as the direct seller and merchant of record. Meanwhile, retail distribution with external retailers, brands, and partners remains completely separate. These partnerships are not included in this update. Any retail placement of that nature under our Earn More or licensing programs will still require a separate agreement and your individual consent.
